Welcome back to another exciting season of swimming! We are less than one year away from the 2008 Beijing Olympics!
Last season, the UBC Dolphins underwent some major changes with the inception of a new National Swim Centre located at UBC. These changes proved to be exciting for the team and provided the staff with many new challenges and opportunities. With our new system in place the Dolphins performed exceptionally well both nationally and internationally. The UBC Dolphins won medals at all major international meets including the World Championships, Pan American Games, and Universiade Games. The Dolphins also won both overall National Championships and the Thunderbirds won their 10th consecutive Men’s and Women’s National Titles – what a season!
This year, as we prepare for the Olympic Trials and Olympic Games, there are more changes which will streamline our operation and help produce more excellent performances. I am excited to announce that Janice Hanan will start coaching at UBC and will be assisting Claude-Yves Bertrand with the National group as well as in many other areas of our program. Clara Chan, who has been providing us with administrative support for the past four years, is moving on to pursue new opportunities – I wish her all the best. Marian Johnson is staying inside the UBC Dolphin organization and will now be coaching with the VPSC assisting in the development of our age group athletes.
We have enhanced our website capabilities and registration is now available on-line. Please refer to our website for updates throughout the season: www.pacificdolphins.com.
The UBC Dolphins staff can always be reached by either calling the office or sending us an email. Our contact information can be found on the UBC Dolphin website.
Thank you for all of your support and I am looking forward seeing you in September.
Sincerely,
Derrick Schoof
Head Coach
